Welcome to the New Division C

Greetings! My name is Frank T Chen, the new Division C Governor, 2009-2010. I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share with you my excitement as your Division C Governor. Being the division governor is a new venture for me personally; however, I want to use my many years of Toastmasters experience to help create a climate and service environment that will enhance your personal learning and growth experience in Toastmasters.

Let me first welcome each one of you and for some maybe your entire club to the new Division C, carrying forward many fine traditions and distinctions of yours and your club to the division. Division C now serves Menlo Park, Palo Alto and Mt. View.

The theme of our division this year is “Reaching out to Your Potential.” You all have or know your dreams and potential; your club as a group has its potential. We all can become better than what we were when we reach out more to achieve our potential. It symbolizes a journey of continuing forward progress, not merely a destination!

You join Toastmasters because no doubt it helps you unlock, reach out to achieve your potential and your dreams; you also lead others to become toastmasters because you want them to reach toward their potential and their dreams. We enhance our communication skills so to help reach out to our potential and dreams; we learn and improve our leadership skills so to propel us to become a leader, or a better leader, to serve others and our communities.

In that spirit, I want to encourage each one of you to step out your comfort zone to become an active leader serving your club members as club officers, to volunteer as a mentor, a coach, a committee chair, an Area Governor, or to work in the Division office facilitating others to achieve their potential and their dreams. We serve and we receive in return.

Using the theme I encapsulate my term goal simply this: Help to create and shape an environment in which each of you can better reach out your potential. This is done by opening up opportunities, encouraging contributions and participation, via coaching, mentoring and role modeling. Do you want to serve as assistant to area governor, or in the Division office? There are also many lead/chair opportunities available in our Division C activities throughout the year; such as speech contests, officer training sessions, hosting District 4 Fall Conference, workshops, where you can serve. As a result of your participation and contributions, we will make the Division a better one than what we were last year in education, fun, and social connections; and of course a better distinguished division.

Any one interested in serving please contact your club president, area governor or myself (franktchen@comcast.net ph: 408.446.0107) for further details. Don’t worry, as you know Toastmasters is a safe environment for us to learn, practice, and refine your skills.

Finally, I want to welcome your submission of a short success story (200-300 words) to share with us of your life experience in “Reaching out to Your Potential,” either of your personal own or in helping others to achieve.
